Class Description

Washoku is traditional Japanese cuisine. This class is all about learning how the Japanese eat and approach food. Washoku is very focused on achieving the perfect balance of nutrition for the human body. You'll learn all the basic foundations of Japanese cooking in this course, such as cooking the perfect bowl of rice, homemade pickles, miso soup, dashi, preparing fish, and simmered vegetables. If you are new to cooking Japanese food, this is the perfect place to start. Before the class you will receive the list of ingredients and equipment needed for the class. Most ingredients can easily be found in large supermarkets or Asian grocery stores. All our beginner classes are designed for home cooks and you will most likely have all the equipment already in your kitchen. You can be up to 4 people on 1 device in this class. This class menu usually covers: - Miso Soup - Takikomi Gohan (wild mushroom rice) - Pickled Vegetables - Salmon Yuanyaki - Eggplant Nimono (the dishes may change based on the seasons) In this class you will learn the following techniques: - Homemade dashi - How to wash, prepare, and cook the perfect bowl of rice - How to make "Tsukemono" pickles - Yuanyaki, a traditional fish preparation - Nimono, the Japanese way of simmering vegetables to retain nutrients - Basic knife skills - How to plan weekly Washoku menus
